This podcast was born from our decades-long friendship, experiences as women living in this world of ours, and shared obsession with true-crime, criminals, and other such fear-inducing, creepy, and even annoying things.
Merie is hoping to replace the above photo soon, as she knows none of these people.
Merie is proud of many of her accomplishments in life, none more so than in her ability to make Becky laugh more than almost anyone in the whole world. Or something more accurate.
Becky is wearing a "Nope, Not Today" t-shirt, holding a mirror, and possibly (probably?) wearing too much makeup in this photo. That was intentional, which might just tell you everything you need to know about her.
Becky holds a Master's Degree in Criminology from the University of Cambridge, and another one in Communication Studies from Texas Tech (guns up!) University. She taught Interpersonal Communication at a college in Dallas for many years, enjoying almost every second of her time spent giving life advice and teaching her "kids" how, ironically, to live lives free from fear. Becky launched a lifestyle blog in the time since she left the professor game.
Becky's interest in true-crime/genuinely horrifying human behavior started pretty early in her life, when in the space of a year, her uncle was murdered and a little girl from her hometown was kidnapped and killed by a neighbor.
When she's not obsessing over murder, world travel, and all things style/beauty/makeup-related, she can usually be found hiking the trails in and around Yellowstone - the park, not the TV show. Although, sometimes she can be accused of being in a "Beth Dutton state of mind." Listen to our podcast and you might hear some of that...if you're lucky.
We want to have a conversation. With each other, and with an audience. We have both lived enough life to have something to say, but are still eager to hear others' opinions. We may not agree all the time or even most of the time, but the things we talk about "fearing" are also important things others also want to talk about.
It is one way to talk about navigating the world while not being fearful. We gotta talk about it before we can overcome it. It's also a way to frame conversations about things that are truly scary, and about other non-scary but pertinent issues, since some of what we claim to "fear" are not actually terrifying to us. For instance, you might fear for Prince Harry's mental health, like Becky does, but do you REALLY fear Meghan Markle? (Wait...)
Besides the obvious? Oh, yes, we will get to serial killers, clowns, ghosts, and haunted houses of course.
Merie also fears QAnon's popularity while Becky fears incels, those self-involved basement dwellers who haven't taken a look at their own selves to find out why no one wants to date them, much less sleep with them.
Merie fears that social media is creating anti-social youth. Becky fears for the futures of the children of "snowplow" parents and psycho-sports parents.
Becky fears the creepy voice of Elizabeth Holmes. Merie fears her cat may kill her.
Becky and Merie both fear...well, you just gotta listen for that.
